Current Open Courses

From next year, I am going trial running some public courses in Moving and Handling People and Basic Life Support.

These course mean that if you have small numbers of staff who need training refreshers or you are recruiting a small number of new staff, you can pay for individual courses for those people and not need to book trainers to come in and train them.

This will potentially save you a large amount of money. Each course will cost £55 per person including certification.

The courses are 3 hours long (full learner outcomes and dates below)

Moving Handling People:

By the end of the session, learners will be able to:

1.  Understand the importance of reading and following the service user’s Manual Handling Plan.

2.  Complete a Dynamic Risk Assessment (TILEE).

3.  Transfer a service user using a mobile passive hoist from a bed to a chair and visa versa, using best practice.

4.  Safely use slide sheets to move a service user on a bed.

5.  Safely use various types of stand aid devices.

6.  Support a service user to stand from a chair and to safely use walking aids

This course is suitable to both new staff and staff completing regular refreshers. This is a largely practical skills course and staff new to social care would benefit from completing an online Moving & Handling Theory Course. A version is available on our website.

3.  Know how to treat a breathing but unconscious casualty including carrying out the recovery position.

4.  Know how to treat a choking casualty and complete back blows and abdominal thrusts.

The course is suitable for both people new to social care, and people completing regular refreshers.

People must be able to position themselves on floor to complete CPR. If the delegate can’t do this, they can be given a certificate of attendance but not of completion and competency.
